Tom Holland has responded to speculation that he will reprise Spider-Man for a fourth time.
The British actor last appeared as the superhero in 2021's No Way Home, which grossed an eye-watering $1.922 billion globally.
Whispers about a potential fourth installment of Holland’s Spider-Man began earlier this year; however the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes are said to have delayed initial meetings about it.
Speaking recently at the Critics Choice Association, Holland, who is currently taking a break from acting, admitted that he would “love” to return if they can find the “right” story.
He said, as reported by Collider: “All I can say is that we have been actively engaging in conversations about what it could potentially look like for a fourth rendition of my character.
“Whether or not we can find a way to do justice to the character is another thing. I feel very protective over Spider-Man.
“I feel very, very lucky that we were able to work on a franchise that got better with each movie, that got more successful with each movie, which I think is really rare, and I want to protect his legacy,” he continued.
"So, I won’t make another one for the sake of making another one. It will have to be worth the while of the character."
Despite his reservations, the 27-year-old seemed hopeful about the prospect, adding: “But that said, if we can figure that out, I would be a fool not to put the suit back on again because I owe everything to Spider-Man.
“I love the character and the people I get to work with. So, I would love to tell another story, but I’ll only tell it if we can find the right one.”
Previously, Holland said in June that he was “a little apprehensive” about a fourth movie and was considering “walking away” while on top.
He told the Hollywood Reporter: “There's a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises.
“I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there's a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
