Tom Hanks has unveiled the “horrible” haircut he had to get in order to portray Elvis Presley’s manager in an upcoming biopic of the cultural icon.
The actor showed off his bald 'do during a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Hanks is currently in Australia, where the film has resumed production after a pause due to the coronavirus pandemic. (Hanks and his wife his wife Rita Wilson both tested positive for the illness in March and have since recovered.)
Hanks plays Thomas Andrew “Colonel Tom” Parker in the film, while Austin Butler stars as Presley.
“Let me show you the horrible I have to have in order to portray Colonel Tom Parker,” Hanks, wearing a baseball cap, told Norton via video link. “Check out this horrible – can you see that? Look at that thing!”
Hanks was sitting up when he first removed the hat, meaning the haircut in question was out of the frame for a few moments.
However, the actor eventually sat back down and briefly flashed his completely shaved head.
“I just scared the children,” Hanks quipped. “I want to apologise.”
The biopic was originally supposed to come out in October 2021 but – like many films during the coronavirus pandemic – has been moved. It is now expected to be released on 5 November 2021.
