Tom Cruise no match for Tommy Tiernan in RTE ratings after replacing comedian's chat show

Tom Cruise’s hit Mission Impossible couldn't match Tommy Tiernan's regular RTE rating after he flick replaced the chat show on Saturday night.

The Saturday night chat show series came to an end last weekend and RTE chose to replace the slot with the blockbuster movie.

But it appears Tommy’s replacement fell flat as an average of 107,000 people watched the hit Hollywood flick.

Meanwhile, Ryan Tubridy triumphed over the weekend ratings as an average of 557,000 people watched the Late Late Country Music Special.

The latest ratings were a massive increase of 167,000 viewers compared to the show the previous week.

A spokesperson for RTÉ said: "Friday night’s Late Late Show was watched by an average of 557,000 on RTÉ One and RTÉ One+1. It was watched by 57% of the available audience. On RTÉ Player, Friday's episode has generated 44,500 streams. The current series from September onwards has 969,000 streams so far.”

RTE gangland drama Kin saw an average 391,000 tune to watch the third episode on Sunday night.

A spokesman for RTE said the show “has been attracting over half a million viewers per week to RTÉ since its return, with on-the-night viewing, and also many viewers choosing to catch up on episodes during the week via catch-up or RTÉ Player.”

Episode one of season two of Kin has accumulated views of 503,000, while episode two has hit 500,000.

Meanwhile, Claire Byrne’s new quiz show, Ireland’s Smartest, saw an average 356,500 viewers tuning in.

A spokesman for RTE said: “The first episode of Ireland's Smartest had an average audience of 356,500 viewers (Live Plus VOSDAL) on RTÉ One (including RTÉ +1) and a 33% share.”
