Tom Cruise debuts bold new look at Oscars luncheon as fans mock 'Donald Trump-level tan'

Tom Cruise showcased a bold new look as he appeared almost unrecognisable at the Oscars luncheon in Beverly Hills – where fans mocked his "Trump tan".

The Hollywood star, 60, stepped out for his first red carpet appearance in eight months, but he looked noticeably different from the last time he was snapped.

Posing for pictures with his fellow Oscars nominees, Top Gun star Tom was all-smiles as he seemed to enjoy the annual event at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

He not only appeared to have a visibly darker skin tone, but the actor quite literally let his hair down as he boasted a longer hairstyle than most fans are used to.

Tom was seen mingling with nominees Curtis, Michelle Yeoh, Austin Butler, Angela Bassett, Steven Spielberg, Michelle Williams and Brendan Fraser.

His new hit Top Gun: Maverick is nominated for Best Picture at this year's glitzy awards show held on March 13 in Los Angeles next month.

All 182 Oscar nominees came together for this afternoon's get-together as it gave the star-studded list of names a chance to network and pose for photographs.

During the event, Tom was asked to partake in a group selfie, for which he insisted on moving over to a spot with better lighting, according to the New York Times.

Fans took to Twitter this afternoon to comment on Tom's appearance, with one saying: "Tom Cruise Spray Tan Dot Tumblr Dot Com."

"Jamie Lee Curtis seeing Tom Cruise’s Trump-level spray tan up close," another wrote alongside a snap of a Jamie and Tom embracing.

The star-studded ceremony, the 95th edition, will be hosted by TV funnyman Jimmy Kimmel and take place at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.

Colin Farrell and Bill Nighy have both received their first best actor Oscar nominations.

Irishman Farrell was nominated for The Banshees Of Inisherin and English actor Nighy for his role in the film Living.

Also nominated in the category were Irish actor Paul Mescal for Aftersun; Austin Butler for Elvis; and Brendan Fraser for The Whale.
