Tom Cruise revealed he jumped off a roof aged four in one of his first ever daredevil stunts.

The Mission Impossible actor, known for performing several of his own stunts on set, recently explained he has always had a thirst for adventurous antics.

Speaking at a Cannes premiere panel discussion this week, the 59-year-old star admitted he thought he was going to die after he leapt off the roof of his family home when he was four.

The actor admitted he was worried about what his mum thought of the dangerous feat.

“I was about four-and-a-half years old, and I had this doll, and you throw it up in the air and a parachute comes down,” Cruise said.

“I played with this thing, and I’d throw it off a tree, and I was like, “I really want to do this.” I remember taking the sheets off my bed, and I would tie a rope... and I climbed up to the eave, and I got up to the roof.”

The actor confessed he didn’t hesitate in giving the stunt a try.

He continued: “I looked and my mother was in the kitchen - she had four kids - and I jumped off the roof.”

“It’s that moment when you jump off the roof and you go, “This is not gonna work. This is terrible. I’m gonna die.” And I hit the ground so hard. Luckily, it was wet.

“I don’t know how it happened, but I figured out after that my face went past my feet as my a** hit the ground. And I saw stars in the daytime for the first time, and I remember looking up, going, “This is very interesting.”’

Despite leaving the scene unscathed, Cruise was more worried about what his mum would say about his bed sheets.

“I thought, “Oh my gosh, my mom’s going to kill me” because the sheets were dirty,” Cruise joked.

The Hollywood star has been attending the 75th Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of his latest film Top Gun: Maverick.

The film, which comes 36 years after the original movie was released, features Cruise returning as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell as he captains a cohort of younger pilots during a dangerous mission.

Set to be released on May 24 in 2022, the film has already earned rave reviews for its high-stakes action.
