Tom Cruise accepts MTV Movie Award for Top Gun while flying in vintage fighter plane

Tom Cruise accepted his MTV Movie Award while flying sky-high in a vintage fighter jet.

The Hollywood legend took to the skies as he accepted the award for Best Performance in a Movie for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, which was released last year.

The sequel to the classic 1986 movie, Top Gun, saw the return of original cast members including Jenner Connelly and Val Kilmer, who returned as Ice Man.

The movie became the highest-grossing film of Tom's career following its success at the box office.

After being announced as the winner, a clip of Tom showed him in the fighter jet holding onto his golden popcorn trophy as he thanked his massive fanbase for the win.

"Hi, everyone, thank you so much for this award. I make these films for you," he declared. "I love you. I love entertaining you.

"How much you enjoy it, how much you appreciate it. There is no better feeling and I hope you enjoy this."

Tom went on to tease his upcoming movie, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning and bested the other nominees, Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Don’t Worry Darling), KeKe Palmer (Nope) and Michael B. Jordan (Creed III).

"Dead reckoning coming out in July. It's a wild ride. Have a wonderful summer. Thank you again for letting me entertain you. It's an absolute privilege. We'll see you at the movies," he concluded.

Tom sent a similar message to King Charles during the Coronation Concert on Sunday evening.

In a pre-recorded segment, Tom delivered a tribute while controlling the plane, which is reportedly one of the aircrafts that featured in the Top Gun film.

He sweetly told the King: "Pilot to pilot, Your Majesty, you can be my wingman any time."

Elsewhere in the segment, Pierce Brosnan and Bear Grylls discussed the "action man skills" that King Charles has acquired over the course of his life.

Pierce said that he "got his wings as a fully-trained RAF pilot" decades ago, whilst Bear added that King Charles "even took on the Royal Marines' commando training".
