Tom Burgess won't be moving to Super League next year, but he's kept the door open for a move in the coming years. The England prop has signed a new contract with South Sydney Rabbitohs, penning a one-year contract to stay at the club he has played for since 2013.
Now 30, Burgess will become the Bunnies' fourth highest appearance maker this week and will be able to add further appearances to the 211 he's already made in the NRL after agreeing to stay until the end of 2024.
But Burgess' decision to only sign a one-year contract has certainly caught the attention of people in the UK, particularly after recent comments about a move to Super League and specifically Leeds Rhinos. During the World Cup, Burgess told Rugby League Live: "I'm English and proud to be English. I'd like to bring my family back at some point but we'll see what happens. My immediate future is the World Cup then I'd like to re-sign with Souths for a few extra years and then go from there.

"Probably just being back here makes you miss it and miss the people. It does grate being back in the country a little bit, for sure. If it was serious and I was considering it I'd have to speak to my manager and see what's out there.
"You can't say where you're going to go because you don't know if they could have you and there are loads of things involved. Leeds, I grew up supporting them so it would be pretty cool to play for them but also, I speak a bit of French too so I might have to polish off my French, maybe in Catalans."
Though his new contract does put that off for another season, he will still be free to negotiate with Leeds or any other Super League club from December of this year with a view to signing for the 2025 season. Burgess has played in Super League before for Bradford Bulls.
