Tom Brady unretiring again for Selection Sunday would be the funniest thing ever

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Here’s Charles Curtis.

Let’s take you back to nearly one year ago to the day.

The For The Win staff was hard at work at analyzing March Madness brackets as they were being revealed, writing all kinds of content about first-round upsets and best bets and such.

And then … Tom Brady elbowed his way in, unretiring just 40 days after he declared he was done.

You can imagine the reactions from us and, well, everyone else. AHHHHH!

Now, it’s 2023. We’re a few days away from the bracket reveals on Sunday. It was just over a month ago that Brady announced he was done on a beach, and he made it officially official soon after that with the league.

And now Rich Eisen is already talking about rumors that Brady could consider unretiring. AGAIN. Maybe the Miami Dolphins would be involved given uncertainty about Tua Tagovailoa.

Whatever. This is just too much. If we’re heading toward a Selection Sunday in which Brady did this same thing a year later, it’d be the funniest thing ever.

Heck, I’m even asking Tom: Please make reference to it on Sunday. You’re so good at social media. Do a tweet hinting at it and then say, just kidding. Because I really don’t think he’s coming back after truly, officially retiring and saying this was truly it.

… Right?
