New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has claimed he'll be staying on next season, and some fans think a reunion with Tom Brady is on the cards.
The Patriots saw their season come to an end on Sunday as they lost 35-23 to the Buffalo Bills, and it was the Miami Dolphins that took the final playoff spot ahead of Belichick's side. The 70-year-old has been in the NFL for almost 50 years, and it was speculated that he could call time on his career following Sunday's result.
But Belichick has told reporters that he intends to be back and lead the Patriots into the a season for the 24th time. And some fans think he may be sticking around to link up with Brady once again.
Belichick has vowed to "turn the page" to next season on Monday, and said: "We’ve got to have better results, that’s the bottom line." It was a disappointing year for the Patriots, who had to deal with juggling quarterbacks towards the start of the season.
They won't make the playoffs, but Belichick will look to get his side ready to go again next season. However, some think that one of his decisions to stay is to link back up with Brady, and have one more go at winning a Super Bowl.
"He's trying to see if Brady wanna comeback for one last year," one fan speculated upon hearing the news. "He’s waiting until Brady retires," another added.
"Can’t win postseason games without Brady," one fan claimed. "Patriots never should have let Tom Brady walk, time to get him back," another demanded.
Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowl titles together, and the quarterback has been linked with a return ever since he left the franchise for Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady's future is undecided as his deal with the Buccaneers comes to an end after this season.
The veteran retired before the start of this season, but reversed his decision to run it back with the Buccaneers. And he now is showing no signs of immediate retirement, leading to speculation about what may be next.
Brady has been linked with a move to Las Vegas Raiders, and as ever, a return to the Patriots. But only Brady knows what's next, and it's likely he will take some time in the post-season to mull over his future.
