Tom Brady still hung up on loss to Aaron Rodgers in last year’s ‘The Match’

Tom Brady is set to take part in “The Match” for the third time in his career on June 1. Brady still has regrets about losing to Aaron Rodgers last year, as he looks for his first win in the event.

Last summer, Brady and Phil Mickelson lost to Aaron Rodgers and Bryson DeChambeau. This year, it will be a battle of the quarterbacks, as Brady and Rodgers will team up to face Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

Even with the event just days away, Brady still had last year’s loss on his mind. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he indicated he’s out for revenge, as transcribed by Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

“It was okay losing to Tiger and Payton in ‘The Match 1,’” Brady said. “That was a tough day. Losing to Aaron and Bryson last year, that one hurt, man. I was not expecting that. Thankfully, I think I got the best half of that team as my partner this time around, so if he plays anything like he did last time, I guarantee you we’re going to be 1-2, which I’ve got to get off this losing trend that I’m on. But my guy has got to come through. We don’t have anyone to save the day. It’s he and I out there alone. We got to go make it happen.”

Brady and Rodgers have had spirited battles on the gridiron. The two most recently met in the NFC Championship Game on January 24, 2021. Brady the Buccaneers were victorious, on their path to another Super Bowl.

Now, Rodgers will look to team up with his gridiron foe, and help him secure the victory.
