Tom Brady makes surprising admission in TB12 video

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady may have briefly retired this past offseason, but that was not actually the first time he considered retiring. In fact, he considered retiring almost two decades ago.

Brady posted a video on Twitter detailing the retirement thoughts he previously had. He initially wanted to walk away at age 27. At that point in his career, he had just won his second Super Bowl and was held in high regard for NFL MVP voting. Since age 27, he has won the MVP award twice and has won five more Super Bowl titles.

It’s even more interesting to think about what the Patriots’ history would have looked like had Brady retired at 27. The magical run of 20 years of success probably would not have lasted that long, and Patriots history may have looked completely different.

Brady made the admission in a video for The TB12 Method on Wednesday.

“When I was 27, I almost retired from the game of football because of elbow pain. Now, I’m 45 years old, and I’m still here,” said Brady. “No matter the age, no matter the obstacle. It’s about how you feel and about what you do.”

Brady is now in his 23rd season of playing in the NFL. It’s safe to say that elbow pain was just a mere footnote in what has been a storied career.
