Tom Brady joked about leaving Fox after just his first year as an NFL broadcaster

When Tom Brady signed his 10-year, $375 million contract with Fox as the lead NFL broadcaster, the network saw Brady as the perfect person to reshape that booth in the post-Joe Buck/Troy Aikman era.

Instead, Brady’s performance in Year 1 has been so erratic that some have speculated on whether Brady would give up on broadcasting after just one season. Brady — who is also a minority owner of the Raiders — has needed to navigate league-mandated restrictions, the undeniable conflict of interest and the nuances of speaking on live television. It hasn’t been easy, and it was obvious on Wednesday that Brady had heard those rumors.

In Wednesday’s edition of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the Fox personality jokingly teased the segment as if Brady was going to announce his departure from Fox. Brady even went as far as to sarcastically joke about it, but it became clear that the seven-time Super Bowl winner had no plans to leave the booth.

Brady said:

“So I got nine years left on my deal. Maybe longer, you never know. If Fox wants me and I want to go, we’ll just keep going because it’s been really fun thus far.”

Again, with a $375 million deal, it would take something drastic for Brady to willingly walk away from that. We already know that the league has no problems with his Raiders conflict, so why wouldn’t he want to stick around?

We should expect to have Brady back in Fox’s lead booth next season, and he’ll be on the call with Kevin Burkhardt for the Super Bowl in New Orleans next month.
