Tom Brady had a heartwarming moment shouting out niece Maya playing in the College World Series

Family means a lot to Tom Brady, even if he continues to take jobs that will keep him away from them.

The legendary quarterback, who retired earlier this year only to make his return to football 40 days later, highlighted his family in California midway through The Match. This meant taking a break from golfing poorly to shout out a relation carrying on the Brady athletic legacy in a major way.

Maya Brady, daughter of Tom’s sister Maureen, will make her second-straight College World Series appearance Thursday as an indispensable piece of the fifth-ranked UCLA Bruins softball team. Tom made sure to tell the world he’ll be watching, even if the game’s got an early West Coast start time — and that his niece is worth tuning in for.

“I used to be known as Maureen Brady’s little brother. And I always said ‘one day, they’re gonna be known as Tom Brady’s big sisters … I think now we’re all known as Maya Brady’s uncle, and Maya Brady’s mom, and she’s out there kicking butt.”

Brady’s effusive praise may not have fully captured just how dang good his niece has been. Maya Brady was 2020’s Softball America Freshman Player of the Year after leading the Bruins in home runs and RBI while batting .356. She was an All-American in 2021 after cranking 14 homers in 49 games. While she wasn’t as prolific this spring, Brady still batted .329 in the heart of the order for a College World Series team and recorded the fifth-highest slugging percentage in Bruin history.

Brady and her Bruins take on Texas — not Duke, who UCLA eliminated in the Super Regional — at noon ET on ESPN.
