On Friday, several Michigan star players responded to the Big Ten’s announcement that Jim Harbaugh has been suspended for the remainder of the regular season with a one-word message.
The No. 3 Wolverines, who face a stiff road test against No. 10 Penn State on Saturday, will be forced to try and win without their coach after the conference punished Harbaugh over allegations of advanced, in-person sign-stealing within the program.
Junior quarterback J.J. McCarthy was joined by offensive lineman Trevor Keegan, LaDarius Henderson, Karsen Barnhart, Zak Zinter as well as defensive stars Kris Jenkins, Mike Sainristil and Josh Wallace in posting the one-word message of “Bet.”
In today’s slang, Bet is used to signal agreement with something, but often in a sarcastic, defiant tone.
The posts, clearly aimed at being a message of defiance to the Big Ten’s decision, while embracing the “Michigan vs. Everyone” mindset, received support from one of the most famous former Wolverine players: Tom Brady.

No stranger to being at the center of sign-stealing allegations, after his time with the Patriots during the infamous NFL Spygate scandal, the seven-time Super Bowl voiced support of Harbaugh and the Michigan players.
Late Friday evening, Michigan’s President Santa Ono followed suit by posting the same defiant message.
