Tom Brady Becomes Owner of Electric Race Boat Team

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has certainly kept himself busy in retirement. He’s set to become the lead football analyst for Fox’s NFL broadcast starting in 2024, he purchased a minority ownership stake in the Raiders, and his Hertz rental car commercials have run seemingly non-stop. Now, Brady has set his sights on his next venture: electric racing boats.

Brady was announced as the newest team owner in the E1 World Championship, the league announced on Thursday. He joins an impressive list of high-profile athletes and former athletes who have bought into the new league, including Rafael Nadal, Sergio Perez and Didier Drogba.

“It’s great to welcome Tom Brady to the UIM E1 World Championship,” E1 co-founder and chairman Alejandro Agag wrote in a statement. “Tom is a winner and will bring his incredible spirit to our races.”

The new league is set to get underway next year, with races beginning in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There are plans to have races in the United States, though not until 2025, according to Reuters.

“I’m excited to join Rafael Nadal, Didier Drogba, and Sergio Perez, all great athletes with the same desire to compete at the highest level and work together to help make the boating industry more sustainable, create incredible events, and especially to win,” Brady wrote in a statement. “My message to our competition: be prepared for second place because we are aiming for the top.”
