Tom Boyd can't resist Celtic VAR pot shot after Sydney penalty snub as he asks 'are you trying to wind me up?'

Frustrated Tom Boyd took another swipe at VAR after Celtic were denied a penalty during the clash with Sydney,

The former Parkhead skipper has been vocal in his criticism of big video assistant refereeing decisions going against the Premiership champions while on Celtic TV commentary duties, and the Sydney Super Cup clash saw Boyd take another swipe at the system's introduction in Scottish football. Following the game against Hearts, Boyd could barely contain his outrage after referee Nick Walsh was told by VAR operator Steven McLean to play on after Michael Smith handled the ball inside the area in the dying embers of the first half.

Ange Postecoglou was also critical of the incident against the Jambos, while the Australian also raised concerns after Matt O'Riley was penalised for a handball against Ross County in the final game before the winter shut down. Boyd hasn't left the controversies behind with Celtic in action in the friendly tournament, and took another swipe at officiating in Scotland.

Jota's shot from close range appeared to cannon off of Sydney defender Jude Brittain's hand in the penalty box. There were loud appeals from several Celtic players, but the referee wasn't interested as he waved away the claim.

Lead commentator Gerry McCulloch and Boyd watched the replay, and concluded that a penalty should have been awarded. McCulloch went on: "The Celtic players claimed for handball, you would get that in Scotland."

Boyd cut in: "We wouldn't." McCulloch laughed, adding: "I knew you were going to say that."

Boyd remained undeterred. He added: "Are you trying to wind me up Gerry?"
