Tokyo confirmed 641 new coronavirus cases Thursday, up 577 from a week earlier and exceeding 600 for the first time since Sept. 18, when the capital logged 865 cases.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, three patients were seriously ill, unchanged from Wednesday.
Osaka Gov. Hirofumi Yoshimura said the prefecture expected to log about 500 new cases on Thursday.
