Team GB secured their fourth swimming gold medal in Tokyo on Saturday, for the first time since the 1908 Olympics and setting a new world record in the process.
The mixed medley relay team - made up of Kathleen Dawson, Adam Peaty, James Guy and Anna Hopkin – finished in 3 minutes and 37 seconds, just 0.83 seconds ahead of the previous best.
“It’s pretty surreal. We knew we could do something pretty cool. We knew in the back of our heads if we got it exactly right to our race plan we could win it and get the world record,” Guy said in a statement.
Great Britain’s medal tally currently stands at 28 at the time of writing (that’s 8 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze), placing them sixth on the table.
People have since taken to Twitter to react to the win, calling it an “absolutely brilliant” and “amazing” performance:
