Toilet cleaner Steven Nicholas is flushed with success – after finding chart fame at 51.
Steven, who plays under the name Hassle, has seen his reggae track Life is For Living downloaded more than 30,000 times.
By Thursday the track was on such a roll it had climbed to No.11 on the Amazon best-selling songs chart.
Steven also topped the web firm’s reggae downloads chart.
He gets up to 69p per download of his track, meaning he’s in for a windfall which will could match his entire year’s £18,000 pay.
The track has become a surprise smash for the total unknown who has played music in pubs for 35 years.
And it means the mop man is rubbing shoulders with top names like Harry Styles and Beyonce.
But after hitting the big time it was back to work as usual, an eight-hour shift cleaning the loos at a homeless hostel in his native Newcastle.
Steven said of his chart entry: “I thought it was hilarious to be honest but I won’t be giving up my day job any time
soon with the cost of living crisis.
“The lyrics of the song say ‘life is for living’ and this proves it. It’s not about money, it’s about music.”
Pal Lewis Griffiths said: “I was over the moon. I thought he was joking at first knowing the kind of pubs he’s played in over the years.”
