Toddler who was reported missing over a year ago found in Sydney and reunited with grandmother

A two-year-old who had been missing for more than a year has been found safe and well at a childcare centre in Sydney.

Hoang Vinh Le was about 10 months old at the time of his disappearance and was last seen at a Canberra medical centre in O'Connor in April 2021.

In a statement, the Australian Federal Police (AFP) said he had been found following a report from a member of the public and had been reunited with his Canberra-based grandmother, who had been caring for him when he went missing.

The child's parents, Hoang Thanh Le and Lyn Kim Do, allegedly told authorities they gave $200 to a woman at a convenience store in the Sydney suburb of Cabramatta to care for the child for one night.

Authorities at the time alleged they were unable to find the person, identified by the parents as "Kathy Nguyen", or verify whether they actually existed.

The AFP said in a statement on Wednesday that they were continuing investigations into the child's disappearance along with help from New South Wales police.

The AFP thanked the community for their efforts in helping to locate the two-year-old.
