Determined PSV do not want to part with star man Joey Veerman amid a claim they could move for Rangers target Todd Cantwell.
Michael Beale confirmed he is keen on the 24-year-old who will be a free agent in the summer when his Norwich City contract comes to an end. But a move for Cantwell this month cannot be ruled out with the Ibrox side keen on a player who remains coveted due to his previous exploits in the English Premier League.
And a report claims Ruud Van Nistelrooy is an admirer of Cantwell and could move if Manchester United firm up their interest in former Rangers target Joey Veerman. But the former Old Trafford goal hero last week stressed losing a second star isn't on his agenda after seeing Cody Gakpo sign for Liverpool. Speaking amid swirling speculation linking Noni Madueke with Chelsea, a pragmatic Van Nistelrooy said: 'You have to be ready with several options, because then you would lose a second player in January. But as a coach you would rather keep your best players. Situations can arise where clubs come in with an offer that cannot be stopped."
But its understood Veerman is viewed as a player who must remain in Eindhoven with PSV currently fourth but very much in a wide open race for Eredivisie title glory. And, if any interest in Cantwell is firmed up, makes it highly unlikely a move will be in the offing this month.
That puts Rangers is a strong position to pounce with boss Beale a major admirer of a player in desperate need of a fresh start 12 months on from his Bournemouth loan which failed to sparkle.
