Todd Cantwell has returned Chris Sutton’s fire after the former Celtic star accused the midfielder of going down a bit easily against Hibs.
Cantwell won a free-kick that allowed James Tavernier to open the scoring at Easter Road. Ianis Hagi made it 2-0 before Cantwell himself sealed a comfortable victory for Michael Beale’s men in the capital. Record Sport columnist Sutton warned Cantwell, a fellow Norwich City alumni, that he’d have to watch that before officials cottoned on and stopped giving him decisions.
Cantwell wass back on the scoresheet in Rangers’ final home game of the season against Hearts. He levelled on the stroke of half-time to cancel out Lawrence Sankland’s first minute opener. Fashion Sakala looked to have given the josts all three points, only for Garang Kuol to rescue a point at the death for the Jambos with his first goal in maroon, although it wasn't enough to keep their third place hopes alive.
Cantwell showed off his battle scars on Instagram after the game, sharing an image of his thigh which featured a lengthy scratch. The Instagram story was captioned “probably a dive” with a mind blown emoji, making an indirect reference to Sutton’s comments.
The pundit did admit he was happy to see Cantwell hitting his stride in light blue after previously questioning the midfielder. He said: “There is a player in there and fair play to him for hitting the ground running, I am happy for Todd that he is performing."
