Todd Cantwell puts Rangers transfer sleuths on high alert as Norwich doubters hit with veiled parting shot

In-demand Todd Cantwell has dropped a hint that he could be on his way out of Norwich City with the midfielder edging closer to a move to Rangers.

The 24-year-old looks set to put a difficult 12 months in the English Championship behind him after a failed loan spell at Bournemouth and struggling for game time upon his return to Carrow Road, with Ibrox reportedly his preferred destination. The England under-21 international has been told he is free to leave the club where he came through the academy this month with his contract set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Rangers boss Michael Beale has expressed his admiration for Cantwell and ahead of facing Aberdeen in the Viaplay Cup admitted reports were "not far off the track" with new faces expected to arrive in Govan in the coming days. The speculation over his future has sparked pot shots from Norwich fans on social media over his lack of form over the last two campaigns.

Former Canaries player and boss Peter Grant has also taken aim the playmaker, who insisted he had got too caught up with "Facebook stuff" rather than focusing on his career. Cantwell appears to have taken a veiled swipe back at his critics on social media.

He shared has shared a list of "12 daily reminders" to his Instagram following the outspoken reaction over his imminent departure. The list includes "everyone's journey is different", "things always get better with time" and "you only fail if you quit."
