Todd Cantwell lauds Rangers' 'amazing' away support in seven word address after big win over Hibs

Todd Cantwell has branded Rangers' travelling band of fans at Easter Road as 'amazing' as part of a seven word online address.

The Light Blues' January recruit played a key role as Michael Beale maintained his unbeaten run in the Premiership as Ibrox gaffer with an emphatic 4-1 win at Easter Road. The visitors had to show their powers of recovery once again under the new boss as they responded from going behind to a Connor Goldson early own goal to turn the game on its head inside the opening 35 minutes.

James Tavernier levelled almost instantly from the spot after a VAR review rewarded a penalty for a foul on Ryan Kent. Antonio Colak then showed excellent movement as he converted from a Fashion Sakala low cross. The Zambian - Rangers' star man on the night - then got in on the act with a brilliant finish to punish David Marshall's poor kick out before he set up Colak for his second and the Light Blues' fourth of the evening under the lights in Leith.

Victory keeps Rangers still nine points behind league leaders Celtic with the Hoops also having to respond from an early setback to defeat Hearts at Parkhead. They have matched Beale and Co's results stride for stride and not allowed for them to claw back any of that points difference at the league summit since the 42-year-old took over the big chair from Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Cantwell - who is finding his feet and getting better and sharper with each passing game - wrote on Instagram: "Enjoyable performance and amazing away support again."

Speaking to Rangers TV, Beale said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I thought the team started poorly on the set-piece, but after that I thought some of our play was good. We could, and probably should, have scored three or four goals more which shows how dominant it was. That was our best performance since we were last in Edinburgh and it was because our energy and commitment to pressing all over was fantastic.

"We regained a lot of the ball in the middle of the pitch, in interesting areas, and I thought the front three were electric. We played well in the big spaces and down the side of them. The midfield three were fantastic, all three of them had really good games as well as the two central defenders.

"We came tonight, it was sold out, and it was quite an emotional crowd. They go 1-0 up and it looks like it could be quite a tough night so full credit to the players. They keep believing in the way that we’re playing, and if they keep showing that same belief and quality, then we’re starting to build a head of steam in our league form.”

He continued: “In 17 games, that’s nine times that we’ve scored three goals or more. The goals have been there. We’ve missed big chances in every game. Again tonight, a mixture of good goalkeeping and blocks, we should have scored three or four more goals and I don’t think anyone could have argued in the stadium.

“Onwards and upwards, that’s three points and that’s all it is. The most important thing is that we perform with the same level of application, quality and energy on Sunday to get us into a [Scottish Cup] semi-final.”
