Todd Cantwell insists Rangers can hold 'most successful club in the world' tag as he admits trophy room left him stunned

Todd Cantwell insists Michael Beale’s Ibrox squad will be out to defend Rangers’ claim to be the most successful club in the world at Hampden.

With 117 major trophies, the Light Blues reckon no one else can match their haul of silverware and have even installed murals making the boast both at Ibrox and the club’s training ground. But Celtic’s decade of domination has allowed the Parkhead outfit to slash the advantage held by the Ibrox outfit. February’s Viaplay Cup triumph moved the Hoops on to 114 and set to soon become 115 with this year’s Premiership title all but in the bag.

Should Celtic dump Beale’s men out of the Scottish Cup it would put Celtic on course to move to within one of their rivals’ benchmark ahead of next season. But Cantwell insists his squad won’t let that honour go without a fight. He said: “That’s something that no one wants to lose. It’s something we have and it’s we want to hold on to. So whatever we’re in, whatever we’re doing, you know the responsibility of playing these games. It doesn’t matter what you’re playing for. You’re playing for Rangers and you have to win the game.”

Last Sunday’s pathetic Pittodrie performance means Celtic can now wrap up the title against Hearts in the first game after the split. Gers, meanwhile, find themselves back in the shadow of their neighbours just two years on from the club’s first title triumph in a decade.

Cantwell said: “I’ve had a good look round the trophy room at Ibrox. I was a bit blown away when I went through it, I think anyone would be. But it’s something I want to add to while I’m here. Definitely, that’s for sure.

“I’ve been told about 55 and I want add to that. I don’t want it to be on 55 by the time I part ways with the football club.”
