Todd Boehly warned against Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Chelsea transfer amid Jurgen Klopp decision

Todd Boehly has been warned against the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Chelsea near a move for the Barcelona striker. The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Thomas Tuchel looks to bolster his strike force.

football.london understand that talks with the Spanish giants are ongoing, though it remains to be seen whether the former Arsenal captain favours a move to west London. It's said that the Blues boss is eager to reunite with the Gabon international who prospered under his stewardship at Borussia Dortmund.

Tuchel has specifically identified Aubameyang as a priority signing before the transfer window slams shut. But, with Jurgen Klopp known to have turned his nose up at a deal to bring the striker to Liverpool, Chelsea have been encouraged to take their business elsewhere.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Weekend Sports Breakfast show, former Blues striker Tony Cascarino said: "He is a great finisher and a fabulous footballer, but my only concern is that Jurgen Klopp never went after him. He worked with Aubameyang a lot at Dortmund, but Jurgen was never interested in re-signing him.

"He was brilliant for Klopp as well but never chose to bring him in – what does that tell you? There's one thing having a player you had in your 20s and him excelling for you, which Aubameyang did at Dortmund, and then having him again at 33."

Despite being unconvinced by the striker's character, Cascarino is confident that Aubameyang will enjoy a bright future in front of goal for Chelsea. He said: "If Chelsea plays a counter-attacking style, Aubameyang will get goals. Chelsea created a lot of chances last year, Romelu Lukaku didn't take enough, and neither did Timo Werner.

"But Aubameyang can do that, he is a good finisher," Cascarino added. "So if Thomas Tuchel wants to play a certain way, to attack and punish teams on the counter, the movement of their players has always been exceptional, and if they add a clinical striker to that, I can see Aubameyang getting goals."
