Ally McCoist has branded Chelsea's move for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix as an 'absolute madness'. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this month, with the Blues set to beat Arsenal Manchester United to the striker's signature.
football.london understands that the west Londoners are close to signing Felix on a loan deal until the end of the season. The Athletic add that Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement to sign the Portugal international on loan from the Spanish giants.
It's believed Felix is is enticed by the project in west London despite Graham Potter's side enduring a difficult vein of form. Todd Boehly expected to pay €11million (£9.7million) - a fee which is below what Atletico initially demanded.

With Chelsea reportedly set to pay an eye-watering amount for six months of Felix's services, McCoist has branded the valuation as an 'absolute madness'. Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Rangers striker said: "That’s an interesting one. I can’t believe we’re paying £9million for a loan now… Absolute madness.
"I like Joao Felix. I don’t think he’s the answer to Chelsea’s problems. They need a centre-forward. Plus, I don’t think he’s consistent enough.
"I watched him closely in the World Cup, and I thought he did some brilliant things. I thought he had one or two good games. But he’s one of those players who leaves you wanting a little bit more."
Chelsea have taken the next step towards completing the signing of Felix. According to ESPN, he's been granted permission by Atletico to undergo a medical in London ahead of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.
The report that, as a deal nears completion, an option for a permanent move will not be included and the Blues will cover Felix's wages in full. It's said that the Portuguese star will extend his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2027 before leaving.
If Felix pens a deal in west London this month, he'll be the fourth signing of the month. Chelsea have already welcomed Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window as Potter looks to bolster his side ahead of a late push for top-four.
