Todd Boehly told to make ruthless Graham Potter sack decision despite Chelsea win against Leeds

Graham Potter recorded a crucial 1-0 win against Leeds United on Saturday to ease the pressure on him as Chelsea manager. Wesley Fofana’s second-half header was enough to secure the three points at Stamford Bridge, although it kept Potter’s side lingering in 10th place in the Premier League.

The Blues’ solitary goal ended a wretched run of 396 minutes without finding the back of the net, while it was also just their second victory of 2023. However, former Chelsea defender Paul Parker still believes this is the “perfect timing” to dispense with Potter’s services.

“First of all, I have to say that it would be extremely easy for any manager to take over Chelsea now and start from scratch,” Parker told bettors. “Because no matter what happens, he will get the rest of this season and a summer transfer window with no pressure on his shoulders.

“So, honestly, it would be the perfect timing to sack Graham Potter. A new manager would have nothing to lose and that is a good thing.”

Parker, who made just four appearances for the Blues in 1997, also gave his thoughts on potential successor Mauricio Pochettino. The former Spurs manager remains among the favourites to land the west London hot seat, but Parker is less than convinced on the potential match.

“I have seen Pochettino being mentioned as a Chelsea-target if they were going to sack Potter and that makes absolutely no sense,” he added. “He would not be a good fit for Chelsea.”

football.london understands Potter still retains the backing of Todd Boehly and the board. However, Saturday’s triumph was just his third win in 16 matches, and could once again be under the spotlight with a poor result against Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League second-leg.

Parker also said how he feels the former Brighton boss may regret ever joining Chelsea. He continued: “But I must say that it wouldn't make any sense at all to sack him.

“I would like them to stick with Graham Potter because I have seen what he was able to achieve with Brighton and he might even regret ever going to Chelsea.

“Graham Potter has the chance to make himself the best English manager ever but I feel sorry for him. I was one of those people who advocated for him not to go to Chelsea but I can understand why he couldn't turn down a big job like Chelsea.”
