Todd Boehly has been told by a former Chelsea manager that signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should keep the Blues above Tottenham in this season's Premier League top four race as former Arsenal man gives his 'ok' to £22million transfer.
football.london understands that the Blues are keen on paying a total package of £22m for the Gabonese star but there is currently a £4m difference which has slowed down the progression of negotiations to date. The Athletic reported that the Blaugrana rejected a money plus Marcos Alonso offer made on Boehly's behalf and the report clarified that Chelsea could walk away if the La Liga giants continue to play hardball in this situation.
The 33-year-old has now given the 'ok' to this transfer operation according to the latest going around in the European press but no agreement on the fee is imminent to date. If the Blues were to walk away from Aubameyang, many supporters hope that other options like an Ivan Toney or even Aleksander Mitrovic come into the equation but as it stands, Tuchel's adamancy to sign the former Arsenal captain has led to Chelsea having a tunnel vision approach in this case.

“No, the opposite of frustrated after last week’s match. I’m very happy, very confident after last week’s performance because I saw a good team, a very good team performance, an excellent match," the manager said about his feelings on the transfer front in his pre-match press conference this Friday. "As I told you, we work together on reinforcements but it’s never easy and it’s not like we can just wish for something and it will happen.
"As long as the transfer window is open, there are always possibilities. We know what we are trying, we know what we are doing. The focus is on what we have, not what we could have. The focus from me is the team, they get their full energy and full attention from us.”
Chelsea face Leeds United in their game week 3 fixture this weekend and Blues fans have already had to witness Tottenham picking up maximum points on Saturday afternoon with their tight 1-0 victory over Bruno Lage's Wolves.
As usual, the topic of the top four race came back as a talking point post-match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but a certain former Chelsea manager and player has told Boehly about the importance of this Aubameyang deal to Chelsea's top four chances.
Glenn Hoddle told BT Sport: "I think they’re going to get closer to Chelsea. Chelsea have a very good squad and if they do get Aubameyang, it will be good news for Chelsea fans."
