Todd Boehly sent Cristiano Ronaldo Chelsea transfer warning amid 'horrible' Man Utd scenario

Chelsea have been warned against signing Cristiano Ronaldo on a free transfer in the January transfer window.

Todd Boehly met with Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, during the summer to discuss a potential move for the 37-year-old but was shot down by former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel's decision ultimately contributed to his eventual sacking with Graham Potter replacing him as manager at Stamford Bridge in September.

Ronaldo mutually agreed to terminate his contract with United during the World Cup after a scathing interview with Piers Morgan saw him criticise his teammates, Erik ten Hag and the Glazer family. The Blues signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling over the summer but are said to be keen on reinforcing their attack in the new year.

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has warned Boehly against signing Ronaldo in January following his 'horrible' ending at United. Mikel told Dubai Eye: "I’ve never been a Ronaldo fan really. For me, when a player has so much ego, I don’t really get it.

"He’s never been one of my favourite players and that’s why I always go for [Lionel] Messi really. I mean, if someone comes out and gives such an interview, what makes you think, if he signs for your club in January, he won’t do the same?"

The Blues icon feels that Ronaldo should not have taken the decision to speak out against Ten Hag and his former club claiming it's 'not right'. Mikel added: "So, I mean, every club is going to be aware of that… but listen, he is Cristiano Ronaldo; he’s one of the greatest players ever to have played the game. I think he’s going to get another club in January and continue his football career.

"But for me, it’s just a horrible scenario, he’s done so much for the club, and to see it end this way, it’s just horrible. On his part really, I would say that interview shouldn’t have been done, wrong timing as well.

"It’s just not right. It doesn’t look right for such a player that has achieved so much in the game."

Ronaldo scored in Portugal's opening World Cup match against Ghana and will be available as a free signing in the January transfer window.
