Todd Boehly's Chelsea business gives hint to Manchester United fans over new owners

The Glazer family are officially looking for investment in Manchester United, but the process could end in the sale of the club.

It is not clear yet who is officially in the running to buy the club, but a number of entities have registered interest in taking United off their hands. But looking further down the line, what should fans expect after the new owners have taken over?

In 2022, Todd Boehly alongside a consortium, completed a takeover of Chelsea after Roman Abramovich was forced to sell the club due to his involvement with Russia. They have quickly gone to task in making some massive changes.

Boehly invested heavily in the Chelsea squad during the summer window. The club spent over £200million in a single window to bring in the likes of Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Marc Cucurella just to name a few.

Boehly even wanted to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo from United after the forward had tasked his agent with Jorge Mendes to find a new club, but manager at the time Thomas Tuchel stated he did not want the 37-year-old.

This solved a number of Chelsea's problems on paper, but the results did not reflect the investment. Therefore Boehly and the board took the decision to sack Tuchel and bring in Graham Potter as their new long-term manager.

It seems that the board will back the new manager in the January window as well, signing a number of new players which could include Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. The Argentinian midfielder has a release clause of just over £100m but some reports have stated that Chelsea may be willing to pay more to structure the deal over a number of years.

So why does this matter to United fans?

Well firstly they should be worried that their rivals Chelsea are willing to spend big to close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and therefore make it an uphill task for Erik ten Hag to get back to the top, but it should also serve as an example for United fans of what they should hopefully expect from new owners.

Boehly is investing money in the club to improve Chelsea presently but also in the future as well. This is something the Glazers have failed to due during their 17-year ownership of the club and United have fallen behind because of it.

Hopefully, a new owner means a new age for United.
