Todd Boehly responds after Mason Mount joins Manchester United from Chelsea

Chelsea co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have hailed Mason Mount as a “consummate professional” following his move to Manchester United.

The 24-year-old was confirmed as a United player on Wednesday after bidding an emotional farewell to Blues fans in a social media video on Tuesday.

Mount said he understood some sections of the Blues support would be disappointed with his decision to leave the club given his 18-year spell.

A two-time winner of the Player of the Year award at Stamford Bridge, Mount won the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his time there.

Still, the England international suffered with injuries last season and saw his relationship with the owners deteriorate.

He had entered the final 12 months of his contract with Chelsea and rejected their final offer of a one-year extension in February.

As a result, Mount was put up for sale and duly joined United on a five-year deal for around £60m.

After the official confirmation, Boehly and Eghbali released a joint statement.

"Mason is a consummate professional and a popular figure at the club. We want to thank him for all his efforts on and off the pitch throughout his time at Chelsea,” it read.
