Todd Boehly identifies Harry Maguire and Wesley Fofana Chelsea transfer alternative

Chelsea and Todd Boehly have one and a bit weeks left to rectify this summer transfer window.

Having signed six players for the now and future, the Leeds United result exposed the fact that new additions are needed in certain areas for improvement to continue.

Manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants another defender, a winger and a striker with a midfielder low down on the agenda. The likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana and Anthony Gordon could all move to Stamford Bridge before the September 1 deadline.

With this in mind, football.london rounds up the latest transfer rumours doing the rounds on Thursday, August 25th.

Harry Maguire and Fofana alternative identified

With Leicester knocking back a third bid for the 21-year-old on Tuesday night, the Blues are seriously considering making a move for the Man United defender, who was recently benched for the Liverpool game at the expense of Raphael Varane.

This is according to the Evening Standard. However, Sky Germany have identified a new target as an alternative to Fofana in Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba.

Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg tweeted: 'He‘s definitely on the list of CFC and a possible transfer target in the future. He was discussed internally in the case that the transfer with Fofana would fail.'

With the Bundesliga club in talks for a Callum Hudson-Odoi loan with the Blues, it isn't a surprise to see Boehly enquire about the Burkina Faso international.

Hakim Ziyech twist

Hakim Ziyech's Chelsea exit takes a big twist as Man United sweat for Ajax's Antony at this late stage of the transfer window.

Initially, it looked as though it would be a straight loan deal for the Moroccan to return to a club in which he has so many great memories. His brother had hinted at this move with a cryptic Instagram post. Since this hint was dropped though, Ajax have seemingly made progress on potentially making more of the situation as they explore a permanent solution to compensate for a potential Antony exit.

German Hamstelaar's tweet translates to: 'Previously it was thought of rent with option to buy, as well as a definitive purchase is now one of the options, depending on the price tag. The coming hours/days are leading with regard to the sale of Antony'

Since making his stance known by going on strike and watching the latest Man United game with his agent, Antony is determined to seal his Erik ten Hag reunion despite his new manager in Amsterdam not wanting to let him go.

Frenkie de Jong U-turn and Conor Gallagher future

Thomas Tuchel may have to re-consider his Chelsea transfer priorities ahead of September 1 because of Newcastle United.

The Telegraph's Luke Edwards tweeted: 'Told nufc pushing hard for Gallagher on loan from Chelsea after landing Isak from Real Sociedad. I have to be honest I have no idea where this leaves Pedro deal now. Some saying deal remains close, others saying Watford have rejected final bid already this week. We shall see.'

Tuchel is a big fan of Gallagher and planned to incorporate him into the first team fray. So much so that the German was adamant that alongside the 22-year-old, he had enough options in midfield to cope without a Frenkie de Jong type signing amid injury woes.

De Jong, just like he did against Real Sociedad, started in the friendly at the Camp Nou against Man City on Wednesday night as a Barcelona stay is looking increasingly more likely as the days go by.
