Todd Boehly given Cristiano Ronaldo Chelsea transfer boost after Bayern Munich decision

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have ruled themselves out of the race for Cristiano Ronaldo following the termination of his Manchester United contract by mutual consent last week. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo delivered controversial claims on the Glazers and United manager Erik ten Hag among other topics.

It was announced on Tuesday, November 22 that both parties had come to an agreement to mutually part ways with Ronaldo now a free agent. Although finding a new club will be important to Ronaldo, his primary focus at the moment is with Portugal in the 2022 World Cup that is currently ongoing in Qatar.

Portugal have won their opening two matches which has seen them secure qualification from the group stages with Ronaldo on target in the 3-2 win over Ghana, although his 'goal' in the 2-0 win over Uruguay was credited to Bruno Fernandes who supplied the cross that Ronaldo felt he got a touch on.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is a keen admirer of Ronaldo and attempted to make a move for him in the summer when he expressed his desire to leave Man United after they failed to secure Champions League qualification but Thomas Tuchel was not so keen on the move.

With the German coach no longer at the helm of the club, Boehly could certainly reignite his interest and convince new manager Graham Potter that a short-term move for Ronaldo would be a worthy transfer swoop.

A potential big-money move to America or the Middle East could be on the cards for the 37-year-old, but his desire to compete in the Champions League is strong and following comments made by Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn, Chelsea's chances of signing Ronaldo have been boosted.

Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Kahn said: “I can rule out a move for Ronaldo. We’ve considered it, we all love Ronaldo but strategy is different.

“We’ve a clear idea and philosophy of how our squad should be put together."

With Bayern being one of the only teams with a possible interest in Ronaldo that could have offered him Champions League football, Chelsea, if the decision is made to pursue his services, could have a free run at Ronaldo.

Graham Potter's side are due to play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last-16 and can use their European status as a key negotiating factor, with Ronaldo's boyhood club Sporting CP knocked out in the competition's group stages.
