Todd Boehly finds perfect N'Golo Kante successor as Chelsea eye midfield star from rivals

Chelsea's long-term transfer vision is already being constructed by their new owners, with Todd Boehly setting up the infrastructure to begin his grand plan at the club. Under the former regime, spending big was seen as a necessity, but in a new era for the Blues, self-sustainability appears to be at the core.

The summer underlined the conflict between the old and new regime, with plenty of money being spent so the squad could stay competitive, whilst also looking to snap up some younger talent to add for the future. The switch of head coach to Graham Potter outlined their ambition to get everybody working towards the same goal.

The backroom staff have also been completely changed, with Boehly currently hiring a number of top scouts and directors from around the world to better improve the sustainability at the club. “Sourcing and identifying talent is really a global proposition,” the part-owner said in a SALT conference when discussing Chelsea's strategy.

“You have markets in South America, all throughout Europe, all throughout Asia, Australia, and it's not regulated at all. So dealing with the agents in each market, it's almost like it's a local business on a global scale.”

While that will take time to implement at the club and feed through, the Blues will have to stay competitive for the here and now, especially with some key players coming towards the end of their time. Midfielder N'Golo Kante is one of those, having impressed when he is available, though that isn't too often with his increasing injury concerns.

His deal expires in the summer and it leaves Boehly as the interim sporting director to solve it in the transfer market, appearing to find that answer with another rival team. According to GOAL Brazil, Chelsea are monitoring a potential move for Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes.

The Brazilian international has been hugely influential for the Magpies in just a short amount of time, becoming one of their key players since signing last January. Able to play a role in all phases of play, the 24-year-old has propelled his side up the league table and has since been linked with big switches away.

It remains to be seen if he would be a possibility for the Blues, though it could be a transfer that costs a lot of money in transfer fees.
