Todd Boehly faces Cristiano Ronaldo Chelsea transfer question amid Man United January exit

The summer transfer window saw a record-breaking spend from Chelsea as new owners Clearlake-Boehly looked to reshape the squad with a £271million warchest. An emphasis was made on strengthening the Blues for the current season and future campaigns.

The likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined to make sure the club could push for the top end of the table, while Wesley Fofana and Carney Chukwuemeka, Gabriel Slonina were signed to a view of both now and years down the line. "They have a good understanding of what they want to achieve, in the long-term, they have a plan," New boss Graham Potter said of Chelsea's owners when he arrived.

"We were happy, secure, and we were at a good football club, so you have to acknowledge that as well. But the challenge was too big to turn down. It felt right for me."

While it's not been long since to summer transfer window closed, attentions will soon shift towards the next market opportunity in January. The Blues continue to be linked with a number of players, from Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol to Jude Bellingham and Edson Alvarez.

However, one that could become available after interest from Todd Boehly in the summer is Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Telegraph reporting that an exit from Manchester United could be on the cards. While he could be a huge character, former defender Glen Johnson believes it wouldn't quite be the right move for Chelsea.

Speaking to Bettingodds.com, he said: "It’s a tough one because obviously he’s an icon and has been one of the best players in the world for a long long time. Commercially, whichever club that signs him is going to make a fortune, but is he going to improve Chelsea’s team right now? Probably not.

"I think he’ll be a big player to have around because he’s a big character and he’d be great to have around the dressing room. However, I think you have to be careful as to why you are signing him.”
