Chelsea may look to delve into the transfer market in January to reinforce Graham Potter's squad in the hope of turning their form around after the World Cup.
The Blues spent more than any other Premier League club in summer transfer window bringing in the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana. Todd Boehly has led plenty of changes at Stamford Bridge since his arrival as Chelsea co-owner earlier this year, but he will be concerned by the performances of the team in recent weeks.
After being knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Manchester City in the third round, a competition in which the Blues finished runners-up last term, Potter's side now sit eighth in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of a top four spot. The World Cup break gives the 47-year-old a chance to work with players that will not be heading to Qatar to represent their respective nations as he aims for a strong start once the Premier League resumes next month.

Chelsea have been linked with a number of top players both domestically and across Europe, with Boehly expected to add plenty of reinforcements that fit in with the manager's play style. football.london understands Christopher Nkunku has agreed a pre-contract with the Blues ahead of the summer transfer window next year, with the Blues only needing to activate his £53million release clause to complete a deal.
Nkunku's RB Leipzig teammate Josko Gvardiol is also said to be close to securing an agreement to move to Stamford Bridge next summer. The Croatian defender can play at left-back and centre-back making him a useful option to provide cover in key areas for Potter, especially given the defensive injuries Chelsea are facing with Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell both currently facing lengthy lay-offs.
Nkunku would significantly improve Chelsea's attacking performance with the France international having already scored 17 goals in 23 appearances, whilst Gavrdiol would sure up the defence. Boehly may look to accelerate both deals and secure their signings in January instead to help Potter and Chelsea perform better in the second half of the season as they aim to finish in the top four.
