Todd Boehly has revealed what challenges he's faced at Chelsea a year on from taking the helm at Stamford Bridge. Last year, the Clearlake Capital consortium won the race to buy the west London club for £4.25billion, ending Roman Abramovich's 19-year reign.
Despite having committed over half a billion pounds towards player signings across two transfer windows, Boehly is yet to reap the rewards of significant investment. Despite the American billionaire's best intentions, Chelsea have struggled in the first year under new ownership and currently sit 12th in the Premier League.
Speaking at this year's Milken Institute Global Conference, Boehly was quizzed on the differences between football (Chelsea) to Baseball (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Basketball (Los Angeles Lakers). The 49-year-old said: "It's such a global sport and unlike in the U.S there are no unions.

"So there's a market for top players in every country in the world and each one of those markets is different. You've got the Portuguese market and the French market and the English market.
"Then of course obviously you have to build a team and your coach is the conductor of the team, so I think there's a lot that we've learned about the different markets. The global aspect of it all and, as you said, the fans are demanding.
"You know they want to win and we get that we want to win so you know I think our view though was that this is a long-term project and you know we're committed to the long-term.
"We very much believe that we're going to figure it out. We've got the best league in the world, we've got what I think is the top city in the world and we've got an unbelievable location in the top city in the world."
Earlier this season, Boehly was interviewed by Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea's clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League. The American billionaire was asked for his thoughts on the Blues' recent troubles.
"We look at this as a very long-term process and we had a lot of work to do," Boehly said. "We are excited about the future, the future is bright and we are excited about tonight."
