A furious Todd Boehly was not happy with his Chelsea players after the 2-1 defeat against Brighton - and decided to address them in the Stamford Bridge dressing room following the full-time whistle.
Frank Lampard's side took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour through Conor Gallagher's effort, before ex-Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck equalised just before half-time.
Brighton then found a deserved second-half winner after dominating large spells of the game as Julio Enciso fired home from long-range to give the visitors all three points in west London.
It was a result that saw the Seagulls complete the double over Chelsea and move closer to the European places, leaving Lampard's men inside the bottom half of the Premier League table.
According to the Telegraph, after the game, Boehly decided to go into the changing room and speak to his players following another drab performance and defeat. The American, who took over the club from Roman Abramovich last summer, labelled the Blues' plight as "embarrassing" and slammed his Chelsea stars.
Co-owners Boehly, Behdad Eghbali and Hansjorg Wyss are understood to have all entered the home dressing room after Lampard's post-match speech and described their thoughts on his club's current situation. They made sure Lampard had finished what he had to say, before going in and airing their views ahead of the game against Real Madrid on Tuesday.
It is clear Boehly hasn't been best pleased with Chelsea's recent run of results and was involved in an altercation with some supporters during the game against Brighton. Boehly sat in his usual spot in the director's box but was subjected to criticism from fans who sat above him.
He decided to throw his arms out as an angry fan appeared to make his feelings clear as Chelsea's turbulent season took another difficult turn on Saturday. There were several other fans who seemed to display frustration at Boehly, with the Blues currently 11th on just 38 points from their 31 league matches.
Chelsea arguably have one last hurrah to save their season, however. They face Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final second-leg and need to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first game in Madrid to stand any chance of progressing to the last-four.
Lampard has lost his first three matches since re-joining the club as Interim Manager until the end of the season and will need a response from his team against Real on Tuesday. Speaking ahead of the second-leg tie, the 42-year-old was asked about Boehly going into the dressing room.
"I am comfortable with that," Lampard told reporters. "There was maybe some criticism of our old owner and not coming to the game, which wasn't always true, but when the owners are around and want to have input. I was always happy as a player when I could speak to the owner."
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga added: "Hopefully tomorrow we can involve all the fans and make the different atmosphere that we need in this game to go through. We've got to go step by step and do the right things from the beginning. Todd came to the changing room, every game, he had different chat with us. I'm not going to say what he said but it's normal when he came to the changing room."
Boehly has spent almost £600million since coming to the club, with Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Wesley Fofana his most expensive arrivals. But the American hasn't seen much improvement, with Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter two managers who have paved the way for poor performance and disappointing results.
