Today’s ‘Wordle’ Word Of The Day Answer #280: Saturday, March 26th

Spring is here at last. The birds are chirping. The snow is melting. Children are laughing and frolicking in the great outdoors.

And we’re still solving our daily Wordle, or trying to in any case. Today’s was pretty damn tricky—definitely the toughest word of the day I’ve had in a good long time.

But the challenge is what makes succeeding and finally guessing the right answer so much fun. If there’s no challenge to overcome, there’s little satisfaction to be had, which is what makes beating tough bosses in Elden Ring so life-affirming and dopamine-inducing.

Wordle is not quite as challenging or addictive as that game, but with words like today’s, it can definitely test your puzzling prowess.

We’re just 20 days away from the big Wordle #300 today, folks, with lots more to come after that.

An Introduction to Wordle

  • For those new to the game, read our Wordle primer before you start playing and learn about how this fad got started.
  • Then, if you want some advanced tactics to get those low guess answers, you can read our Wordle Tips and Tricks guide here.

Today’s Wordle #280 Challenge

Before we go any further I must warn you. Spoilers are incoming! If you don’t want a hint, run for the hills! If you don’t want the answer, run over the hills and through the woods—or just stop reading now. You’ve been warned.

The hint: Addy’s sieve. (Say it fast).

And the answer is . . . .

Epoxy!

So this was tough! Maybe if I’d guessed a word with ‘Y’ at the end earlier I would have gotten to the solution earlier, but I’m not sure. This is tough for a lot of reasons. It starts with a vowel; there’s a friggin’ ‘X’ and a ‘Y’ in the word—and they’re next to each other!

It’s also just not a word people use very often. It’s not a word that just pops into you’re head unless, I suppose, you work in construction or do a lot of home repair stuff. My clue, of course—Addy’s sieve—is just a sneaky way of saying adhesive.

  • SNAIL was a terrible guess, though a fun starting word (which I think is more important than using the ‘best’ starting words).
  • BLOCK wasn’t much better but at least it gave me the ‘O’ in green. STORE gave me the ‘E’ in yellow but left me totally uncertain of where to go next.
  • GOOEY was a bold next guess, but it ended up giving me the ‘Y’ in green and further narrowed down where the ‘E’ could go.

Honestly, I couldn’t think of any words that had the ‘E’ in the second slot and it just seemed super unlikely, so I started going through my remaining letters and trying to find anything that started with ‘E’ and ended with ‘Y’ and pretty quickly I came to EPOXY for the win!

Have a great weekend, my fellow Wordlers!
