The Kentucky State Police is working to fill its ranks with new recruits. The law enforcement agency has announced the largest cadet class in nearly 10 years. The class has 103 men and women who will be attending the Kentucky State Police Academy in Frankfort.
Matt Sudduth is a sergeant with the KSP. In an interview with WEKU, he said the raises announced last year have helped in recruitment efforts.
“This is the first cadet class recruited under those, under the new raises. So, while cadet class 102 was actually in session at the time that these raises went into effect, cadet class 103, they were the first ones actually recruited and knew what the pay was going to be under the new raises.”
Not only is this one of the largest classes in recent years, but there will also be some firsts. The KSP Sergeant told WEKU these cadets will be working with some new technology.
“So this is the first Kentucky State Police Academy class to be trained with our new integrated camera system, body-worn cameras. This is the first class that will be equipped with a body-worn camera upon their graduation. That’s pretty new, that’s a new thing that hasn’t been included in previous cadet classes.”
Sgt. Sudduth says the K-S-P has been building up their recruitment efforts. Last year, Governor Beshear announced a $15,000 salary increase for K-S-P sworn personnel.
