No. 2 maegashira Tochiozan kept his record perfect after taking down ozeki Takayasu on Day 5 of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament at the Fukuoka Kokusai Center in Fukuoka on Thursday.

After the two slammed into each other at the start-off, Tochiozan gained the advantage and eventually threw down Takayasu.

Unbeaten Tochiozan shares the lead with komusubi Takakeisho, who pushed out sekiwake Ichinojo (1-4).

Tochiozan faces No. 3 maegashira Nishikigi today.

In other action, ozeki Goeido lost to Nishikigi, who had started the basho with four consecutive losses.

Nishikigi threw the ozeki down just after the jump-off, sending Goeido to his third loss.

Ozeki Tochinoshin also lost, hitting the surface just outside the ring before No. 1 maegashira Hokutofuji (3-2) as the Georgian wrestler saw his record drop to 3-2.

Meanwhile, No. 2 maegashira Tamawashi benefited from yokozuna Kisenosato pulling out from the tournament, picking up a forfeit to improve to 3-2.

Komusubi Kaisei, who missed the first two days of the basho, picked up his first win by battling past sekiwake Mitakeumi (2-3).
