'To even stay in touch' - Ian Wright makes Liverpool claim over Man City and Chelsea transfers

Ian Wright has claimed that Liverpool have ‘bigger fish to fry’ than the FA Cup after they sealed their place in the fifth round of the competition on Sunday.

The Reds beat Cardiff City 3-1 at Anfield thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino and Harvey Elliot , to qualify for the last-16 for only the second time under Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool are yet to win a domestic cup under the German, but will have the opportunity to change that when they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on 27 February.

However, Klopp’s side are also in the knockout stages of the Champions League and are still involved in the title race.

Wright claims that because the Reds lack the squad depth of Chelsea and Manchester City, they’ve had to sacrifice cup competitions in recent years to focus on landing the bigger trophies.

“We know the way that Liverpool have done business. He told ITV Sport .

“To even stay in touch with Man City and Chelsea and what they’re having to compete with, the signings they’ve made the players that have come through the academy, the players they’ve bought for the academy to then get into the first team.

“There’s no fat on Liverpool, everything is really lean. They’re trying to keep up with those teams. So sometimes you can see why in the FA Cup they haven’t done well in it because they have bigger fish to fry.

“They’re building something and like I say, they’re doing it properly. They don’t waste their money they buy the right player they target who they want. They get who they want and they all deliver.”

Next up for the Reds is a home clash with Leicester on 10 February.
