TK Maxx and Homesense recall premium tea products containing insects

TK Maxx and Homesense have recalled selected batches of three premium tea products found to possibly contain insects, the food safety regulator has announced.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) confirmed that three varieties of Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas - Calm & Relax, Chamomile and Sleepy - would be withdrawn from the shelves over safety concerns.

“Insects may be present in these products, which makes them unsafe to consume,” the FSA said in a statement released on Tuesday.

The FSA did not confirm what type of insect was found in the product.

Anyone who has bought the products has been urged not to consume them and return to TK Maxx or Homesense for a full refund.

The products were on sale in both popular high street retailers between April and June this year, according to the FSA.

The affected batch codes are:

- Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Calm & Relax, pack size, 60g, batch codes 6057, 6071, 6118, 6126 and 6207

- Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Chamomile, pack size 40g, batch codes 5887 and 6111

- Kintra Foods Organic Premium Leaf Teas – Sleepy, pack size 40g, batch codes 6058, 6102 and 6125

Homesense, TK Maxx and Kintra have been approached for comment.

Kintra Foods produce a wide variety of foods for “health conscious” consumers, according to the firm’s website.

The company manufactures all of its products in Australia.

In January, Daylesford Organic was forced to recall organic crispbreads and biscuits due to possible contamination with moth larvae.

It came a month after Tesco recalled a batch of Christmas stuffing mix due to the possible presence of moths in the product.
