The Tennessee Titans had no shortage of injuries to cover going into their Week 9 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but even more popped up during the contest.
Already missing a starter along the offensive line after right tackle Chris Hubbard was ruled out with a concussion, four of Tennessee’s five starters exited the game at some point.
Right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was the only one who didn’t return, though.
On top of having to cover for Hubbard and the other offensive linemen, the Titans were dealing with a pair of injuries in the secondary, with cornerback Roger McCreary being ruled out on Wednesday and fellow corner Sean Murphy-Bunting exiting the game early.
So, how did the Titans cover for their injuries in Week 9? Find out now as we analyze the team’s snap counts from Thursday night.
Snap counts and analysis: Offense
-Aside from the five starters (left to right: Andre Dillard, Peter Skoronski, Aaron Brewer, Daniel Brunskill and Nicholas Petit-Frere), three other offensive linemen saw at least three snaps, which means every active O-lineman played in this game. Jaelyn Duncan played the first three snaps of his career on offense at left tackle in place of Dillard, Corey Levin played seven snaps at guard and Dillon Radunz replaced NPF. Brewer was the only offensive lineman to play every snap.
-Tyjae Spears out-snapped Derrick Henry for the third time this season, despite the close nature of the game.
-Josh Whyle played five snaps in his first game back from injury but did not record a snap.
-Kyle Philips’ 22 snaps were the second-most he’s had in a game this season. He made the most of them, with a team-high and career-high 68 receiving yards on four catches. DeAndre Hopkins led all Titans receivers in snaps, even though he entered this game questionable with a toe injury.
-Malik Willis did not play a single snap after seeing two last week.
Snap counts and analysis: Defense
-Elijah Molden, Amani Hooker, Kristian Fulton and Azeez Al-Shaair played every snap.
-Sean Murphy-Bunting played just nine snaps before exiting for the night due to injury. Tre Avery saw a massive bump in snaps as a result, with his 56 matching his season-high mark.
-With Molden operating out of the slot in place of McCreary, Terrell Edmunds played 55 snaps, 38 more than he did in his Titans debut.
-Teair Tart played 43 percent of snaps, which is the second-lowest snap share he’s seen in a game in 2023. Meanwhile, Kyle Peko’s 45-percent share was tied for his second-highest of the campaign.
-After being a bit more involved last week with 17 snaps, Trevis Gipson saw four fewer in Week 9.
