Just days after being signed to the active roster, the Tennessee Titans are parting ways with kicker Matthew Wright.

With kicker Nick Folk sidelined with an abdominal injury, the journeyman kicker was added to the practice squad one week ago after the team decided to cut Brayden Narveson. Wright was signed to the active 53-man roster on Saturday in a flurry of moves in preparation for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wright kicked two field goals and an extra point and made all three attempts in relief of Folk against the Jaguars.
The move likely signifies that Folk should be able to return to action for the Titans in the season finale against the Houston Texans on Sunday. The veteran kicker has missed the past two games with an abdominal injury.
This wasn’t the only news to come out of the facility on Monday. Former cornerback Tre Avery, who was waived Saturday to help make room for Wright, was claimed by the San Francisco 49ers and will end the season out west.
This will likely end his career in Tennessee. In all, Avery spent parts of three seasons with the Titans after joining Tennessee as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers. He has appeared in 38 games with five starts and recorded 22 passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
The Titans will close out the season on Sunday at Nissan Stadium when they face the Houston Texans in Week 18 action.
