As many unfortunately expected, the Tennessee Titans didn’t make any blockbuster (or even smaller) trades prior to the trade deadline.
With the Titans being on a five-game winning streak, some held out hope that the team would find a way to make a move to help them get over the top. At the very least, fans were hoping for some kind of move to strengthen one of the Titans’ weaker position groups.
Truthfully, any significant trade realistically became difficult for the team once the deadline to restructure any incoming contracts officially passed, preventing teams from eating money on a player’s deal to get something done.
The deadline for restructuring contracts to facilitate trades was 3:59 p.m. ET Monday. So, eating money — as the #Bears did with Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn — is not an option. Any trades done between now and 4 p.m. will require a new team to take on the existing contract.

In other words, if the Titans were to make a deal after Monday’s restructuring deadline, they would have been forced to take on the entirety of the incoming contract as is, or extend the player altogether.
Nonetheless, Twitter presented a mixture of fans who were upset at the conservative approach, along with others who ultimately understood the decision even if they weren’t exactly happy about it.
Let’s take a closer look at how some of the fanbase reacted to the lack of moves by the Titans on trade deadline day, which fell on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CDT.
NFL trade deadline has passed. No deals for #Titans

🧵: None of the trades today would've changed the outlook for the 2022 #Titans if they had made them.
– Did they do due diligence on players? Yes
– Would a trade make them better? Marginally
– Could some players provide value beyond this season? Yes
– Is JRob on the Hot Seat? No— Football & Other F Words (@FWordsPod) November 1, 2022

Why did y’all set yourselves up like that…Y’all knew we wasn’t gonna trade for a no one after that Julio mess #Titans pic.twitter.com/jyg4QmfDmV

You’d think after seeing all these trades the Titans would have looked to get some WR help…

How can Jon Robinson cry at the combine, trade away the second best offensive weapon, and now not trade for anyone at the deadline. NEWSFLASH JROB, THE DEFENSE BALLED OUT IN THE PLAYOFFS AND THE TITANS STILL LOST. SO IF YOU SEE THIS OFFENSE AND SAY ITS NOT A PERSONNEL PROBLEM…

It’s a good thing the #Titans are completely set at every position and not 32nd in passing offense so we didn’t need to trade for anyone today, great job guys
— Tucker Karnes (@WTKarnes) November 1, 2022
I actually thought it was really cool of J Rob to give the #Titans social media team the day off knowing they'd have to make a graphic and highlights if he made a trade 👏

Unless the Titans were gonna trade for two starting level offensive linemen and two receivers and fit all that under the cap, nothing they could've done today would've made them competitive with the Bills or Chiefs.

I’m about to lose it. Our offense is ranked 32nd… trade. For. A. Wide. Receiver. #Titans

I get the sense that the Titans aren’t gonna trade for a WR and they’re gonna try to beat KC with their style of football, and then get Burks back next week.

Would have been fun to see the #Titans make a move, but I think this is an acknowledgment that none of the players available would have changed their current status as arguably the 3rd best team in the AFC.
— Mike Herndon (@MikeHerndonNFL) November 1, 2022
players are available. Thinking specifically the QB position where the Titans will have a pretty good idea of what the future should look like whether it’s Tannehill for another year/Malik/someone else (trade up). (2/3)
