Titans’ Treylon Burks tabbed as sophomore breakout candidate

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks is primed for a breakout season in 2023 after what was a mostly disappointing rookie campaign because of injury.

He missed six games in total (two of those because of a concussion stemming from a dirty hit that wasn’t flagged), which is ominous for a Titans team that has been ravaged by injuries in recent years. However, Burks deserves the benefit of the doubt that he can right the ship there.

When he was on the field, Burks was easily Tennessee’s best weapon through the air, as he flashed his big-play ability and knack for picking up yards after the catch, giving us all hope in the wake of the A.J. Brown debacle.

Considering the Titans’ abysmal situation at wide receiver, Burks is primed to get peppered with targets, which is a big reason why Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski believes he’s a second-year breakout candidate.

Here’s some of what he had to say about the Arkansas product:

Robert Woods, the Titans’ leading receiver last year, is no longer in Tennessee. Burks has a wide-open path to cement himself as the favorite target of Ryan Tannehill (or Will Levis).

Tennessee didn’t add another receiver of note this offseason. Burks is now the guy. It’s up to him to show he’s capable of posting numbers similar to what Brown previously provided.

Burks isn’t the only Titans pass-catcher who could have a breakout season in 2023, with tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo being the other. Okonkwo was the best rookie tight end in the NFL in 2022 and posted a yards per route run on par with some of the best receivers in the game.

If the pass protection is adequate, this Titans’ passing attack will only go as far as Chig and Burks will take it.
