Titans star AJ Brimson sent for groin surgery

Gold Coast outside back AJ Brimson will have season-ending groin surgery after a frustrating year that limited him to just 13 matches.

Brimson had already been booked in for surgery post-season but that was brought forward after he struggled to get through 77 minutes of the 48-22 loss to Sydney Roosters on Sunday.

The 25-year-old will rehabilitate after surgery with a view to being fully fit for the 2025 season.

It has been a frustrating year for Brimson who played fullback, centre and five-eighth before injuring his groin in the 20-18 win over North Queensland in round 10.

The Queensland representative came back in round 19 but aggravated the injury in a 24-16 win over Parramatta.

He has played just the one full match since in a 44-0 loss to Cronulla in round 23.

Brimson played just 14 games due to injury in 2023 and his preferred fullback position was taken this year by pocket dynamo Keano Kini, who is on track to be the Titans player of the year.

The return to top form of Brimson is vital to coach Des Hasler's plans for the club after he re-signed at the start of the year on a mega-deal through until the end of 2030.

The Titans are out of finals contention on 22 competition points but can be spoilers when they play top-eight hopefuls Newcastle away on Sunday.

Captain Kieran Foran said the display against the Roosters, where they were in the match at 10-all just before halftime, was unacceptable.

"It is important that we don't give up on the season," Foran said.

"We have got two rounds to go and we need to see it as a chance to build some momentum into next season.

"I would like to see us win our last two games. We can't play finals but you don't want to finish the season having lost the last handful of your games."
