The Tennessee Titans nearly pulled off a massive upset on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9 at Arrowhead Stadium but ultimately couldn’t pull it off, losing 20-17 in overtime.
The story of Week 9 was the same story we’ve seen all year: Tennessee’s defense played an excellent game while the offense faltered.
And the struggles the offense saw outside of the second quarter played a huge role in the loss, as not only did the Titans’ offense waste opportunities, it also couldn’t sustain drives, leading to the defense having to play a ton of snaps.
In all, Tennessee’s defense was on the field for a whopping 41 minutes and 100 snaps — 100! No wonder this unit was as gassed as it was at the end of the game.
Still, the unit did more than enough to put the Titans in position to win.
Now, the snap count takeaways from the Week 9 loss to the Chiefs.
Offense
-Derrick Henry played less than 60 percent of the snaps despite Tennessee’s issues throwing the ball.
-Every Titans starting offensive lineman played every snap.
-Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (40) led the way among Titans receivers, followed by Robert Woods (32), Cody Hollister (25) and Chris Conley (nine). None of them record a single catch, and NWI and Conley both had a huge drop.
-Dillon Radunz saw three snaps as an extra blocker.
-Chig Okonkwo (18) and Austin Hooper (31) were out-snapped by Geoff Swaim (33) despite being the only pass-catchers to make any semblance of an impact.
Defense
-Tennessee’s defense was on the field for 100 snaps, with Kevin Byard, Kristian Fulton, Roger McCreary and David Long playing all of them. Andrew Adams was on the field for all but three.
-Jeffery Simmons (81) and Denico Autry (76) tallied career-highs in snaps.
-Bud Dupree managed to play 44 snaps before exiting with a hip injury.
-With Amani Hooker out, Joshua Kalu saw 62 snaps. Terrance Mitchell, Lonnie Johnson and even Tre Avery saw playing time, but Caleb Farley once again had zero defensive snaps.
-Dylan Cole saw just three less snaps than Zach Cunningham, and for the first time since being activated off the PUP list, Monty Rice saw some defensive snaps.
